Examine Yourself Forget Yourself

Reclaiming Godward Self-Examination for the Anxious Self-Critic

Self-examination can be a helpful tool. But those prone to introspection, self-consciousness, and self-criticism know it can easily spiral into a cycle of endless questions with no solution. And the more they examine themselves, the more they realize how dark this mindset can be.

In this Christ-centered guide, Scott Hubbard shows how the remedy for unhealthy examination is not looking at yourself less but thinking about yourself better. Hubbard introduces two key reasons for examining ourselves, offers a 5-part framework for healthy reflection, and outlines 6 paths toward self-forgetfulness. For readers weary from inward chatter, Examine Yourself, Forget Yourself provides hopeful truths, theological foundations, and practical principles to help readers shift their focus from self to the glorious person of Jesus Christ.
